Believe Survivors

Raising Awareness

Who said we can't fight in a sustainable fashion? With this t-shirt project, the hope is to raise awareness about sexual assault in the Hmong community. "kuv thiab" in Hmong means "me too" in English. These words were transpired by Tarana Burke, the creator of the MeToo Movement, in hopes to draw in support for victims and survivors through the power of empathy. With empathy, we can stand together to engage in breaking down the imbalance of power and hurtful norms in our culture to help victims and survivors.

Resources

With the help of my friend, Kaolee Vang, a local artist here in the Midwest, we put together a booklet for survivors and people who would like to know more information about supporting survivors and sexual assault prevention.

It takes a community...

Social justice movements have many components and one of them includes the community. When looking to change, it has to take effort from all members of the community to make a difference. We're slowly but steady making our voice be heard. We've received so much love and support from people who have purchased a shirt or donated a sum amount of money to this project. In addition, we want to recognize the Hmong-owned businesses who have donated their time and talent to our cause. We know that the use of time is precious and we want to recognize those efforts going to healing a community, especially our Hmong female survivors. Thank you so much to everyone. We appreciate you, we are grateful for you and without you, we could not be able to do this work without you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
